Yeah, that is really interesting. Does anyone know if it mentions what the Glade-eaters were made out of? I think that it specifically stated metal, but I’m not sure.
The wiki page clearly states they were made from metal: theedgechronicles.wikia.com/wiki/Glade-Eaters. And it is implied: Rook's lance shatters when he attacks the glade-eater's "metal side of the furnace" (p. 367, Freeglader, Google Books)
"Screech of metal" and "huge metallic monsters" both appear on p.356.
Yeah, I thought so. I think it also says that the swords are made of metal
Interestingly, the word "steel" is mentioned several times (though only in the form of "steel-rimmed glasses"), yet I don't think there's any steel-producing tree.
That's because steel is an alloy. They add carbon (which obviously exists on the edge) and some other stuff to iron to make it more stable and prevent it from strong oxidation effects (rust?).
But they would have to melt iron(wood) to create steel. And we still don't know how that is working.
Does anybody have any idea how the Guardians Of Night built a tunnel from the rock demon ravine to the sewers? If they went down there wouldn’t they just get eaten?
We don't know when the rock demons appeared. They weren't there when Undertown was still intact, and they might have needed some time to really infest the ruins. So maybe the tunnel was there, and then the rock demons cam e afterwards and were just accepted as a useful addition.
Just wondering if this was ever referenced in the books, have any ever tried to explore the rest of the edge, has anyone explored beyond riverrise? Has anyone ever tried to see if there is anything or land below the edge? Could there be another rock and civilisations above or below them?
In terms of land beyond Riverrise, it's not known. There are mountains there, but very very little is understood about them, and no characters have been there. In terms of what lies below the Edge, in the Third Age of Flight, there are people called descenders who climb down the cliff into the darkness. They are mentioned quite a bit in The Immortals, and Nate Quarter is the most famous descender. The next book in the series (conveniently called The Descenders) will be mostly about descending, and so will have loads of information about what lies below The Edge. It will be released on March 7th 2019.
