Rufus Filatine was the son of Xanth Filatine, and the main protagonist of The Blooding of Rufus Filatine. He was a Freeglade Lancer who fought in the Skirmish at Wooded Crag, and later, alongside Rook Barkwater at the Battle of the Phrax Glade.
Young Life[]
Rufus Filatine was born a year after the War for the Free Glades. In his younger life, he looked up to Commander Rook Barkwater, and, wishing to follow in his footsteps, joined the Freeglade Lancers, becoming a Lance-Cadet in the Fifth Splinter, High Branch Troop of Scartree Company in the Third Roost.
His best friend was Tam Whytewinter, a fellow Freeglade Lancer.
His Blooding[]
Rufus Filatine took part in the Battle of the Phrax Glade for his blooding, killing Squive and being promoted to Corporal by Rook Barkwater. During the battle, Rufus managed to save a phraxfire globe which he returned to the Free Glades, the rest destroyed by Lentil Spume when he realized he was going to lose. By doing so he indirectly started the Third Age of Flight.
