Waif Signallers were Freeglade Lancers who used their special waif abilities to listen and speak in the minds of other people to spread commands and signals. Commanders or marshals would tell the waifs their commands and the waif would in turn communicate the message to every Freeglade Lancer who belonged to that company.^{[citation needed]} This enabled the Freeglade Lancers to direct their soldiers quickly and strategically even during battle. Waif signallers also warned their splinter about possible dangers, listening closely to suspicious noises and, by communicating directly with all members of their troup, encouraged good teamwork and maintained a friendly atmosphere. There was waif signaller in each splinter.
